The Reef Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. course built in 2000, with wide fairways but yawning bunkers and some menacing water features. Guests at the Radisson and the Sheraton hotels can take part in one- or three-day courses at the Butch Harmon School of Golf at the Our Lucaya Beach and Golf Resort.

Shopping and Dining

Port Lucaya is the main shopping and dining hub for Grand Bahama. At the center is Count Basie Square, named after the jazz legend who made Grand Bahama his home. Fittingly, the square swings to the sound of live bands throughout the week. Visitors can also pick from 13 restaurants covering Bahamian and Caribbean cuisine -- don’t miss the cracked conch -- but also European, Chinese, Italian and Mexican cuisine. Even an Irish pub is on site. The marketplace offers duty-free goods and designer labels in smart boutiques as well as local crafts, such as Bahamian straw goods, from the open-air market. Be prepared to haggle at the latter.

Nightlife

Port Lucaya is home to the only casino on Grand Bahama, called the Treasure Bay at the Our Lucaya resort, which welcomes gamers until 3 a.m. on the weekend, with slots, blackjack, roulette and poker. The Port Lucaya nightlife, with Bahamian-heavy, a Carnival-influenced Junkanoo playlist, might not appeal to hardened clubbing aficionados, but it's perfectly satisfactory if you're in the vacation mood. Nightlife around Count Basie Square ranges from live bands and karaoke, with changing themes throughout the week, to international techno and hip-hop at Sparky’s or Bahamian favorites at Jokers Wild.
